PROFILE OF CHAIRMAN, NSC

 

 

We are happy to announce that eminent industrialist Shri Venu Srinivasan, Managing Director, Sundaram-Clayton Ltd. and Chairman, TVS Motor Co. Ltd. has been appointed as Chairman of the National Safety Council by the Govt. of India vide Gazette Notification No. V-18011/2/2011-ISH-I dated 6th July, 2011 as per Rule 7(b) of the Rules & Regulations of the Council.


Shri Venu Srinivasan takes over the Chairmanship from Shri Anand G. Mahindra, who was appointed as Chairman of the Council by the Govt. of India on 26th March, 2008. Shri Venu Srinivasan after attaining his Engineering Degree from the Madras University in 1974 did his M.S. from Purdue University, USA in 1976 and has keen interest in CSR and carries out integrated rural development programmes over 700 villages across India.

Shri Venu Srinivasan is recipient of numerous National and International Awards which include:
  • 'Padma Shri' in the field of Trade & Industry from the President of India for the year 2010
  • 'Order of Diplomatic Service Merit' by the President of the Republic of Korea, for the valuable contribution to promoting Korea-India bilateral relations, in 2010,
  • Conferred with the honorary 'Doctorate Degree in Science' by the University of Warwick, U.K. for excellence in manufacturing and contribution in the field of technology and R&D, in 2004,
  • 'Jamsetji Tata Life Time Achievement Award' for the year 2004 by the Indian Society for Quality,
  • 'J R D Tata Corporate Leadership Award' for the year 2004 by All India Management Association
  • 'Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa)' by IIT Kharagpur, India, for outstanding contribution to the field of Quality Movement and Manufacturing Excellence in India, in 2009.
 
Shri Venu Srinivasan also takes a keen interest in education. TVS Educational Society runs three schools as well as a vocational & advanced training centre to provide training in the disciplines of industrial machinist, mechanical maintenance and electrical & electronics.
